RE: Old friends of the ASA

After 29 years I'm finally getting around to search for my old buddies. That is, anyone who was with the 374th at Pleiku with the 4th Inf.Div. from July 1968 to Feb.1969; with the 146th Avn. Co. from Feb.1969 to Apr. 1970; and with the 7th RRFS at Ramasun Station from Apr. 1970 to May 1971. I have contact with the following with whom I served while in the 146th Avn.: Chet Wickett, Steve Henderson both ARDF operators, and Al Slowik a lingie. While at the 7th RRFS at Ramasun I met Ed Vogelsang where we both were with the ARDF DET.and have been best friends since 1970. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or the others I've listed or anyone who served with these units during the same times. Thanks for your time ....S.Keith Jones

2nd Generation ASAer

Was associated with ASA from my birth in frankfurt until INSCOM came along. My father was a cook and mess sgt for asa units around the world. His name was Obed Welch. He ran the mess hall at Herzo from 60-65 and at Ft Wolters from 65-68. Spent three different stints at VHFS and one at Tori Station 57-59. I was a 98GRU from 71-82. In Misawa 72-74, Berlin 74-77 then saw two units go from ASA to MI/CEWI: the 375th ASA CO Ft Hood, and the 202nd ASA CO in Katterbach. Glad to see this site. I'll be visiting it often.

We have formed a new reunion group of ASA veterans of the Korean Era and service.

Our 2nd Annual Reunion is in November at Carlisle, PA, home of the old ASA School.

I have a data base of about 3500 names with addresses for about 1000. We welcome any assistance in locating our old friends ( and foes).

I served with the 329th from 1953-55.

Female! 98G German and Russian 1971-1993

I was one of the first women in ASA. I enlisted in December 1971. Started as a 98G German. Eventually became a 98G Russian. Went to FS Augsburg in '73, then was the first single woman to go to Gross Gusborn Det, Border Site Command. When the goose closed down, went to Wobeck Det. Worked with Guardrail II and Guardrail V in Germany - TWO tours of duty with what was the 330th ASA Co (AVN). Also stationed at Devens (78-81), Meade (NSA) (84-89), Hood (92-93), and 103d MI, Wuerzburg (89-92) - man did that place suck! Retired now and missing the Army! NOT!

Herzo/Rothwesten daze

what a wonderful site! approx 2 yrs ago, i met marks84609 on line and we established a monthly chat room mtg of asa vets (got up to 100). backed off then to concentrate elsewhere, due to unable to find any vets who served at Herzo/Rothwesten during my time (65-68).

Today, out of the clear blue comes a email from: ron sowinski with a file list of former Rothwesten stars!! finally able to telephone my 1st SGT of Co B, 319th (later co c, 318th) [russell t. "dean" RIGGINS, after 30 years and talk to him!!!

It brought tears to my eyes, i can tell you. therefore, not giving up, and with the help of sites like yours, will endeavor to find more.

we had it good in Germany in 65-68, and i will cherish fond memories of it, forever.

Ever Vigilant!!! waiting for the recall!!!!

ASA forever!

1960 - 1963 ASA Tour

After reading guest book 1, 2 & 3...it appears I was the only one in the ASA between 1960 & 1963. I know there were anothers there, but where are they now.

I went through basic training at Ft. Ord first of '60. Then to Ft. Devens for electronics school...until one day "they" picked out about 40 of us from morning formation (all over six feet) and sent us off to M.P. school at Arlington Hall Station.

After the glories of M.P. training, I was sent (all the way) to Vint Hill Farms. Was there until December of '61...when a buddy and I finangled a "swap" of duty stations with a couple guys at Two Rock Ranch. Was there until discharged in '63.

When people ask me where I was stationed while I was in the Army...the answer always sounds like I spent my entire enlistment at some kind of resorts. After all, Arlington Hall Station, Vint Hill Farms & Two Rock Ranch don't exactly sound like military bases.

Stayed in Saigon for about four months and then a small group of us started the aviation bn. at Nha Trang in support of 1st Field Forces. We stayed in tents right on the flight line after 1st FF threw us out of their quarters in town. Wound up doing two tours in country and finally did my last stint at Vint Hill Farms Va. Got out in 9/68 at VFH. I would like to hear from some of the aircraft guys that were at Nha Trang including ditty boppers, mechanics/crew chiefs pilots elect. techs etc. Thanks again for a great site.

Seems like only 30 years ago...

Reading about all my fellow ASA'ers is a great way to keep the memories alive. I volunteered for Vietnam along with most of the graduating class from Devons, Feb 1966. Only 4 of us (05G30, COMSEC Analyst) were sent originally, everyone else went to Ft. Bragg to get ready to go to Vietnam. Lenny Manelski, Bradford B Williams, Kubala (I cannot for the life of me remember his first name) and Me, Tino Banuelos. Kubala ended up at the Big Red One, cuz I got sick with bronchitis and missed the shipment. The other three of us were stationed at Davis Station and went TDY every month to aa different part of the country When the 7th became the 101st, Manelski stayed in III Corps, Brad Williams went to the Delta and I went to Pleik. During my second tour until my early out I was with the 1st Platoon in Danang. Remember the Danang Hotel? Visit my homepage http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Temple/5523/In-country PS I saw Colonel Millet marching in a

Corrections

Some corrections to my entry above I was at Pleiku, not Pleik and I was trying to write that I saw Colonel Millet marching in a Veteran's Day Parade in Honolulu, two years ago. I always had to retype my reports two or three times.
